Welcome to the Virtual Chapel at St. Phoebe School for Deacons

“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:4-7 (NRSV)

A Gathering for Prayer

Formation for ministry is happening in our lives, all of the time. Here in the Virtual Chapel of St. Phoebe, those who are pursuing education and formation as Deacons in The Episcopal Church in the Dioceses of Virginia and Southwestern Virginia gather virtually for prayer in spiritual community, while living and working with their communities, families, and friends.

On this site, there are links to daily prayer following the rubrics of the Book of Common Prayer which are accessible to everyone, as well as resources for personal and small prayer and support for those affiliated with the St. Phoebe School for Deacons.

When we engage in common prayer, we join with our siblings across distance and time, lifting our hearts and voices with others who intercede for the needs of the Church and of the world. For those preparing for the vocation of Deacon, prayer forms the foundation of ministry with those at all the social margins of this world. Our prayer is also prophetic witness in which we are joined to together to interpret the needs of the world to the church as we do in our public prayer offerings.

Please pray with us. It can, and will, change the world.
